A regular comment said to us is "I wish I could help but..." and so I thought I would write this post to inspire those who don't yet realise their own capabilities.
ANYONE can help us. Even you. Even if you're broke, even if you're young, even if you have no time to spare. There is always a way.
If you want to help us help the horses, here is how:
- JOIN AS A MEMBER
www.schrar.org/memberinfo.html
Just by being a member you can help us. Your membership fee goes toward helping us run SC and afford our Admin fees like printing, sending post, purchasing office equipment, toward the phone bill and other complete necessities.
As a member you may also attend meetings, join the committee, vote at the Annual General Meeting and you may also have ideas or other ways to contribute. Even if you live many kilometers away from us, you may be able to assist in your town!
You could recruit more members in your area, both horsey and non, and you could speak to your local paper about an article on Second Chance and our aims. Just by doing this could get SC more support, donations and potentially build up a SC support network in your area.
- BECOME A VOLUNTEER
www.schrar.org/volunteer.html
Sometimes volunteer spots with the horses become available with one of our Foster Carers. But even if they are not we still need volunteers! Vollies help us at events, fundraisers, putting out notices and flyers in their area, sausage sizzles, and much more.
Volunteers may choose to just donate a little time when we are in their area or they may choose to donate a lot of time with more active roles in our Admin or Management duties. You don't need to be horsey to volunteer.
Some volunteers with a lot of horse experience may choose to help us on rescues, or running horses to vet appointments or new foster homes etc.
- CORPORATE SPONSORSHIPS
Would your business or company like to support us? Please contact us for more information. You could choose to donate a small percentage of profits, or perhaps to sponsor a particular horse during its rehabilitation, or perhaps your company is interested in making a larger, one off donation.
Speak to us about how we thank our Corporate Sponsors.
- FOSTERING OR ADOPTING
www.schrar.org/adopt.html
www.schrar.org/foster.html
It takes a special sort of horse person to Adopt or Foster through Second Chance. If you have a safe place to keep a horse or pony, and adequate knowledge to care for one please contact us!
- SPONSORING A HORSE OR PONY
www.schrar.org/sponsor.html
You, your family, group, school or club could support a horse or a pony in need. For a modest monthly contribution you could follow a rescue through their rehabilitation, sharing their set-backs, triumphs and finding a loving home of their own.
DONATIONS
All donations over $2 are tax deductible!
Donations are perhaps one of the most valuable ways to help us. Horses are one of - if not THE - most expensive domestic animals to rehabilitate and keep.
You can make a single donation - even if it is only a couple of dollars.
$2 buys a flake of hay for a starving pony
$14 buys a bale of hay for a starving horse
$25 buys a good quality wormer to help improve a horse's health
$40 pays for overgrown, chipped and sore hooves to be smoothly trimmed back again
$50 pays for a bag of feed full of nutrients and goodness for a neglected horse
$75 pays for an odd-size rug to keep an ill horse warm and dry throughout winter
$90 pays for basic dental care
$120 pays for more intensive dental care
$200 pays for a minor vet bill
... and so on.
Even if you yourself cannot contribute much, why not speak to friends and family about collecting donations to send to us to help us in our work?
Some ideas on ways you and the people you know can support us;
- Donation collection; contact your friends and family, Facebook friends, sports club, school, group or club, show them our website or flyers and collect donations from everyone, however little they can contribute. It all adds up!
- Free dress day at work or school; speak to your boss or Headmaster about a fundraising free-dress day, with each person to make a gold coin contribution!
- Donations instead of gifts; some members in the past have very generously asked friends, family or work collegues for donations toward Second Chance in place of gifts for special occasions. One young lady kindly asked for donations in place of birthday gifts and managed to raise over $300 for Second Chance!
- Hold your own Fundraising Event! Speak to Second Chance about the sort of event you would like to hold whether it be a weekend-carwash, or a Quiz Night at your local town hall. We can provide you with a permission letter to ask for prizes/contributions and information and support with organising your event!
- Garage sales; get rid of your unwanted goods and items, and donate full or part proceeds to Second Chance. We very gratefully accepted $130 from a 13 year old girl just this year who sold all her old unwanted belongings just to help us help more horses.
There are so many ways you could assist us. Got a great idea of your own? Please contact us to share it and perhaps add it to this thread!
ALL DONATIONS and contributions go directly into our organisation to assist us to rehabilitate more horses. As we do not have paid staff and are run entirely by volunteers you can be rest assured that your money is directly helping horses in need. |
