4th rescue from dogger. Six weeks after loosing Cookie our rescue arab to colic we were driving past the doggers when Mel my daughter said " He's got more horses" so in we go to have a look. There were about 80 horses there. Crying or Very sad we walked around seeing what he had and got seperated.Mel came running up and told me she had found a grey mare and to see if we can save her. I saw this bag of bones standing by herself and there was something about the old girl.
I went to see the dogger and he said she should have gone to slaughter the day before so this was her lucky day. She cost $200 and Mel named her Star.I walked her to the float and she didn't want to load until the doggers daughter said " you can go to a good home or you can stay here and become dog food" With that Star jumped on the float. And they say horses are dumb! Wink
The wife said " What the hell is that?" when she saw Star and I said " a beautiful horse" I wormed her ,got a vet to check her,had a dentist do whats left of her teeth and he told me she is 27 years old , had never had her teeth done, that her mouth was a nightmare plus there were 6 top molars missing 3 on each side and she was starving to death because she couldn't grind her food I put her on Gumnuts and lucerne and kept a video record of her progress. Within 3 weeks her top line started to fill out and her hip bone was starting to dissapear.3 months later my vet had a look and said that she was in GOOD condition. I took Star to the ciro. for a check and he said all her bones were perfect and them he said "Have you had her for 3 months?" I said "Yes and why"
The ciro. said " look at her hooves, see the lines? Something bad happened to her and when you took her home she was happy so from that point her hooves were smooth as a badys butt"
Star is a pet and will live out her life with me. She is a loovley old dook and we love her dearly. A friend of mine rode her bareback with no bridle and she responded to voice and foot comands. Must have been quite a horse in her day my GO GO Granny Star Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy
Star turns 31 this year Cool

That is wonderful, how many horses do you have now, sorry to hear about cookie. Its scarey how bad colic can get and how easy horses can get it. It seems like she really is in love with you guys. Just a questian though, i thought the doggers couldn't slaughter grey horses, with high risks of cancer in their meat. I guess some people don't care.. I hope she has a long and happy life with you guys, you seem like lovely people.
