The Golden Girl |
|
The wife took my daughter Kirsty to the hospital for a check up and was out for most of the day.I went to the produce with Melissa to get some food for my horses and as we passed the doggers yard he had his semi backed up to the yards to take a load of horses on the trip of NO return. The yards were full of horses and his henchmen were belting the terrified horses with 1 meter lengths of black poly pipe to load them on the truck.I stood there with Mel looking at these beautiful creatures wishing I could take the lot home and remembering the wifes words"Don't bring any more rescues home" I had a choice , Do I walk away like the OH wanted or do I save a life and miss the pleasure of the flesh as my punishment
Bugger the wife I'm going to save a life but which one? There were paints, appys, standys. TBs, ponys, etc. There in all the kaos I first saw her, a beautiful golden horse, head held up and proud, standing in her own island of dignaty, she would be the one.
I raced home , grabbed some cash , hooked up the float and raced back to pick her up. We chased her up onto the float and took Blondie home. As we pulled up all my horses came up to see what we brought home. Rain took to her straight away and when old Star tried to attack her Rain flew down and nearly knocked Star on her bum.Blondie and Star are best of mates now
Turned out Blondie is part arab , was 12 ,unhandled and VERY untrusting of humans. Her first feed were pony pellets, carrots and lucern. She left the pellets and carrots, didn't know what they were. Mel and I sat with her every night and after 3 months she took a carrot out of Mels hand, Then the pats started and when she backed away I would take a step back and she would look at me and take a step closer. Time is a great healer and 2 years later she runs to me when she sees me and Mel and is such a sweety. She was rescued 25 July 2005. She cannot be ridden because of a bad front hoof but she has no trouble hooning around the paddock with her mates. I really don't care if she never gets ridden you see Blondie is my 'GOLDEN CRUMPET'

Ohhh she's adorable! Harry you sound like a real softie, lol. Good on you for giving her a reprieve, sounds as though she's well looked after, and well & truly part of the family herd.
