Post My little Brumby Reply with quote
Hi all, my story begins january 2005. Under instructions not to stop at the doggers yard on the way to the produce store I see the dogger has been at the sales again and had 50 to 60 victims in his yard. I think I'll just have a look, I won't buy one and be in trouble with the wife. Well the dogger had about 20 brumbys all to be slaughtered because they don't sell, all in poor condition. There was a very pregnant little black mare skin and bones, her life to end in a few days and her baby NEVER to eat grass and play or see the light of day When I came home I told the wife about the mare and her unborn baby, she said " Well go get her" The dogger had her in a little yard waiting her fate. I backed the float up to the yard and chased her on. MY girls called her 'Storm'. I put her in a paddock by on her own , fed her and spent some time with her.Three days later she would call out when she saw me and come for a pat so silly me hops in the paddock with her. As I went to stroke her neck she pinned her ears back and showed me her teeth. Not thinking I raised my index finger and said NO! Well we learn by our mistakes , she thought she was going to be hurt and she attacked. She bit me so hard on the chest she knocked me on the ground and screamed before turning around and walking off. There was blood dripping out of a hole 4 by 2 cm.but not deep. My wife was laughing so hard she had tears in her eyes. When she finished she said "you certainly ain't Monty Roberts" Talk about adding insult to injury Storm started putting on weight and on the 5 febuary 2005 there was an extra set of legs in her paddock. A little colt stood by her side on wobbly legs watching us. My daughters,7 and 10 at the time, fell in love and named him 'Lightning' After a few weeks I put then with the other horses and as the colt grew he became more handsome and loved playing with our shetland and old Albert our welsh pony. My 2 daughters would play with him every day and he would sleep with his head on their lap His mum settled down when she realised we won't hurt her and loves her baby to bits. The girls trained him to load in the float ,pick his feet up , to have a saddle on ,bit in his mouth ,lead with a haulter and be brushed and pampered Next began the playful foal nips, 'ouch' they hurt. He will sneak up and give a nip and when he gets a reaction he thinks it's good and runs off bucking trying to get you to play with him.My wife had Friends over, they had just bought a 85 model falcon ute and ask me to have a look at it. When I opened the bonnet I saw a vital bolt was missing on the steering and it could cause a major crash. The blokes name is Paul and his nickname is 'have a chat'. I have a 85 falcon for parts and was under the left front guard undoing the bolt and Paul was under the bonnet holding the nut going BLA BLA BLA! Next I saw a little black colt sneaking up and bite him on the bum cheek very hard. He sceamed, stood up ,hit his head on the bonnet knocking the piece of wood out that was holding up the bonnet ,bonnet fell down hitting his head again. I was laughing so hard I had stiches. When Paul went to his wife and told what had happened both her and my wife cracked up laughing. They still don't let him forget! Lightning is always up to mischief and adds some fun to the day. The girls had a short ride on him a few days before christmas and he was a perfect gentleman.A lot of the local young girls have fallen for Lightning and want to buy him. Storm cannot be ridden, bad sway back, but is fat and healthy. The two who almost never made it are part of my family. Sadly I lost Storm 3 days before my birthday to a brain anurism on 3 June 2007
