Raising Tezuka

Seven months ago my mare Atarashi Nissa gave birth to a beautiful colt 'Tezuka Kunimitsu". During his first week, he was easy to approach and catch but like all small childeren, he soon learnt a wonderful new game; "run from the human" He would hide behind his mum then I swear that he would stick his tounge out before dancing out of reach once more. I persisted with daily handling and after spending up to ten minutes at a time playing the "catch me game" he soon stopped trying to bolt off once his head collar was on. But oh what a difference there was come weaning time. No longer able to hide behind Nissa he soon learnt to come to me without fuss and enjoy his daily pats and scratches. Tezuka is now growing into a lovely, friendly young horse who behaves beautifully for the farrier and is happy to greet vistors strolling into his paddock. He is also learning to walk onto the float and walk quietly beside me on the roadside. I feel that we have bonded nicely and I'm looking forward to taking him to shows soon.
