I have found myself with too many rescues I promised to take on a mare and gelding, but I am REALLY pushing my limits. If I can't take them, they will be given to a man who plans to haul them to the auction. If anyone out there can take them....please contact me ASAP. I will forward the owners information. They are in Orcas Island, and are willing to deliver.
One is a 19 year old arab gelding, sound, broke, but skinny.
Two is a 16 year old morgan quarter horse cross mare, broke, has arthritis in rear leg, so only light riding....good kids mount.
Both are super sweet!
The owners only sent one pic of the gelding, and it wasn't current, but he is a grey.
Thanks! _________________ I've spent most of my life riding horses.

Hi Messy Tessy. Thanks for joining us and utilising our classifieds but I am not sure if you realise we're in Western Australia? _________________

Messy Tessy is that Annie Oaklie in the photo? Watched a doco on her a few months ago - she was a fantastic woman!
We don't "haul" and we use things that sound like they sit on top of the water - floats! If you ever move over here - come and join us!! |

I kept reading WA throughout the website, and thought people were saying WA state (which is where I am). I didn't realize they meant Western Austrailia!
I'm such a dork!
In answering your ? I'm not sure if that is Annie Oakley in the pic? My mom always told me to sit down, slow down, etc... on my horses while growing up. The pic reminded me of myself. Annie was a cool lady though.

LOL a few people make that mistake Have you tried posting about your horses on the fuglyblog.com boards? You'll get help from your area through that plus a few reputable rescue centres are listed there for the US. _________________

Messystessy are things as bad over there as what they were for horses ie large numbers being trucked to Mexico and Canada? Is the economy improving and giving you guys a breather?
I follow Fugly too, and for a while there, the situation seemed to be hopeless. |

I do use the fuglyhorseblog....great site. I was trying to get these guys to a number of rescue boards in hopes that someone could take them. I ended up telling the lady to just bring them on, and I would figure it out. She was leaving for New Mexico to pick up her new horses, and stated she would get back to me when she returns. I have a bad feeling that she is just going to drop these two at the nearest feedlot for the meat guy on her way out Selfish Jerk! Amazing that she has enough time and cash to not only buy new horses, but drive to New Mexico from Washington state to pick them up. However she cannot take proper care, nor the time to situate the horses she already has in new homes! People never cease to amaze me
I did rescue a colt yesterday when I went to look at a saddle for sale. Yearling, skinny, man handled, very upset little guy whos owners decided to geld him themselves 3 days ago. Like I said, people never cease to amaze me! I ended up giving the people one of my saddles in exchange for the little colt. Got him home, doctored him up a bit, and waiting on the vet in the a.m. Sweet, sweet little guy.
To answer your question wandowen firedance, the situation over here is not improving. The newspapers like to tell people it is though. The economy sucks! The horse industry is in the pits. Loads of horses are still getting shipped out of here to Mexico and Canada for slaughter. All the rescues are over loaded. It's a really sad situation I pray nightly that it will take a drastic turn around. In the meantime those of us with good hearts are doing what we can. I have five rescues in addition to my own horses right now, and all out of my own pocket. I am looking into getting licensed here in WA so I can seek some donations, but for now I am blessed to have a good amount of land that was a former hay field at my disposal, so my equine grocery bill is not too bad. I baled tons of hay over the summer, so I am looking good. Thank God! _________________ I've spent most of my life riding horses.

Yes I knew it was bad. When you get people dropping their horses off into strangers paddocks - in the hope they will look after them - or letting horses go in national parks and open plains - it is desperate.
Irish horses are also facing a very hard time. Apparently there is a glut of horses, times are very hard and winter is bearing down. There is a committee established now (SPCA?) to look at the problem on the grand scale and work out what to do. Sounds like thousands will be going to slaughter.
You are doing a wonderful job and I hope karma comes right back around and touches you with good luck and health. You are most welcome to stay with us and keep in contact. We have online shows (post a photo) - if you win a class - we will send you your ribbon - I promise!!
Best wishes to you always, Anne |
