KEEPING HORSES SAFE |
|
Is it just me, or do most horses at one time get caught in fences? My tb mare has had 2 injurys in 48 hours do to getting caught in a fence! the first time she got out, and the second she was scratching herself and got her tail caught and bang, back into the fence and cut herself! cost about a week's pay in vet bills! does electric fences do the trick?

What sort of fencing is it?
You would be surprised how many horses get injured within the first 6 months of being in a new home LOL.

Oh boy yes!!! And the accident prone horses? I can't seem to stay away from them.
One of mine has ripped his leg open to the bone many times, he's torn ligaments, steaked himself deeply in the ribs - you name it. NOT NICE. (yet he's never scard!).
My mare just last week hurt herself, only way we can guess is wire (fence) but that doesn't explain how she got cuts on her back legs and face too.
And I almost wrap mine in cotton wool to ensure their safety - their locked away at night and let out and monitored most of the day and it never stops them!
Horses will be horses!

PLEASE! kelsarni, dont tell me that! We have only had our three for less than 3 months? its funny how non-horse people make comments like- well all horses do is stand around a paddock! yep I wish! I'm even starting to stress at night, I do watch them all day, so far the shetland has not had an injury, but the standardbred caught the wire fence on his tooth, and pulled the star picket out, and then broke the wire in half! I'm getting worried about all these vet bills, they are expensive! at least now the vet has been here, I can get prescription medication by just going in,

Ouch that doesn't sound fun! Also sounds like the vet will know his way to your house with his eye's closed! lol Either that or you'd pay for his holiday!
I hope things look up for you!
Ah Non-horsey people! My mares injury wasn't looking too great today, its in an area where you can't bandage it to protect it from flies (bell boots will work a treat though when I can get hold of some) so I had to thoroughly clean it out today and get very physical. My poor OH couldn't want me pull the wound around and get in to pull stuff out! And its only an inch or two long a cm wide and non-horsey people find it HUGE! lol.
