In between season rugging |
|
Just a coupla Q's
What's everyone rugging with at the moment?
It's freezing cold here overnight, whereas the days are still warm & sunny.
We're rugging over night only, with woolen lined canvas, and keeping a cotton on during the day.
Do you rug at this time of year? Natural or synthetic?
Also, for thick coated ponies, do you still rug or wait until the thick of winter, or not at all? There're mini x Shetlands across the road here which are never rugged. They're like mini- wooly mammoths lol, very cute, and certainly look very warm

Mine are all naked still at the moment. Im not rugging unless it drops to 10 degrees (but Romeo gets rugged at 15 as he's old LOL)
At the moment they get their canvases as we don't have anything lighter. I put them on last thing in the evening and take them off first thing in the morning.
Gee girl, you got up early!!

Lol, this is late for me
I woke up this morning, looked outside and noticed that the entire backyard & paddocks was behind fog
First thing on my mind: rugging Aparently this town gets absolutely freezing in winter, hitting the 'minus' temps quite regularly. Bring it on though I say - I LOVE winter!

My bloke wears a summer combo 24/7 (he's shown).
If its cold at about 8-9 at night then his stable combo is put over the top if not he stays with just his summer combo on.
I did have to go out there at 4am the night before last and it was pretty cold otherwise the little shetty has his summer combo on also 24/7 because he's clipped (cremello) and the other two ladies are left naked.

My big boy stays very warm. He is still only wearing a heavy cotton combo at the moment but is still very snug even with the chill of the morning.
