It has come to my attention that very few people know about the Western Australian Animal Welfare Unit so please take a minute to read this post.

The AWU is Government funded and run (not a separate organisation/charity like SC is) and has inspectors that have all the legal powers to investigate and prosecute cases of animal neglect. The AWU must investigate all reports of animal neglect and can be held accountable if they do not do their job properly.

The AWU is the lead agency that deals with livestock welfare cases such as horses, cattle, pigs, poultry etc. rather than household pets.
